Briefs | David Beckham to play his 100th match for England
Soccer
Icon is scheduled to compete today in France: Midfielder David Beckham will make his 100th national-team appearance for England during today's exhibition match against France. Before he does, he could spend much of it sitting on the bench.
England manager Fabio Capello said Tuesday the 32-year-old Beckham will play part of the match at Stade de France, adding he hasn't decided whether Beckham will start.
"He will play a part. It would have been very cruel of me to make him come all the way from the U.S. and not play him," Capello said.
Beckham plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. The Galaxy opens its MLS season Saturday against the Rapids in Colorado.
U.S. team faces Poland: The U.S. men play host Poland in an exhibition match today in Krakow.

Simone Herbeth said in a statement that Udo Voigt, head of the National Democratic Party, or NPD, was charged with incitement and defamation over the pamphlets.
NPD spokesman Klaus Beier and member Frank Schwerdt also were charged, Herbeth said.

Garcia, 20, is suspended until Aug. 15. He paid a $257 fine Monday after being charged with underage drinking over the weekend.
Jones, 22, was charged with unauthorized entry into a car and second-degree assault in separate incidents reportedly involving his girlfriend. He was released Saturday after posting $15,000 bail.
Fairchild, 21, faces charges of third-degree battery and false imprisonment. He is accused of beating a woman.

Mosley says he will agree to testing; promoters might have different view: Zab Judah wants Shane Mosley to agree to blood testing before and after their nontitle welterweight fight May 31 in Las Vegas. Mosley, who has admitted taking steroids before a 2003 bout but contends it was inadvertent, says he will agree to any drug testing — but his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are not willing to go that far.
"I think with the enhanced drugs that Mosley has taken in the past," Judah said, "I want it done before and after the fight, and I want it done now. Mosley is a smart guy, he's not going to do it [take drugs] right before the fight."
