The selective-marked hatchery chinook fishery in northern Puget Sound-Admiralty Inlet (Area 9) will remain open as fisheries managers monitor the catches on a daily basis.
"After reviewing the catch estimates, there is enough room under the quota to continue fishing," said Steve Thiesfeld, a state Fish and Wildlife recreational salmon manager. "We're nearing the quota, so we are monitoring this fishery very closely."
Central Puget Sound (Area 10) closed after Saturday, when its quota of 1,700 hatchery chinook was attained, but is open for coho and other species.
The combined quota for Areas 9 and 10 is 7,000. Through July 29, the estimated catch is 6,500.
Other areas of Central Sound, such as inner-Elliott Bay are open for wild and hatchery chinook Fridays to Mondays only. Sinclair Inlet is open daily. Many public piers are also open daily for chinook. Anglers should check the rules book for details.
