Prime time (delayed, 8 p.m. to midnight, NBC; live,

3-9 a.m., CBUT)

• Defending Olympic champ Jeremy Wariner has been dominant in the 400, though fellow American LaShawn Merritt topped Wariner at the trials. Led by Wariner, the U.S. swept the medals in Athens, and a repeat 1-2 with Wariner and Merritt in Beijing is possible.

• Four years ago, teen sensation Allyson Felix was a rising star and won the 200 silver in her Olympic debut. She goes up against Jamaican sprint queen Veronica Campbell-Brown, the defending champ.

• With China's Liu Xiang out, world-record holder Dayron Robles of Cuba contends with a pair of Americans, David Oliver and David Payne, in the 110 hurdles.

• The first day of the men's decathlon, with reigning Olympic champion Roman Sebrle of the Czech Republic facing Athens silver medalist Bryan Clay of Texas.

• In women's platform diving, Team USA's Laura Wilkinson, 30, who won the gold in Sydney, goes against the China powerhouse with teens half her age: Wang Xin and Chen Ruolin.

• On USA Network: This could be a golden day for Team USA in women's team sports with the big finish of softball (vs. Japan, but it started at 3:30 a.m., so if you slept in, you'll have to catch a repeat) and soccer (6 a.m. vs Brazil).

• On MSNBC, Sue Bird and the U.S women go against Russia in the semifinal at 5 a.m., while Australia with Lauren Jackson takes on China at 7:15 a.m.
