The good thing about the cornucopia of coverage of Beijing '08: It'll make mastering those Metro bus schedules and maps seem easy.

Sorting out the breadth of choices about when the Olympics come to you — and through which medium — is the true challenge for modern Olympic fans.

NBC also plans to deliver the goods, pretty much full time, on nbcolympics.com. That means you can be watching the women's air pistol gold medal final Friday on your iPhone (don't forget to turn it sideways if you want to see the targets) while you're picking up your two-gallon Visine refill at Costco.

Given all this, we offer the following personal strategies for Olympic watching, based on your own Olympic profile:

The Casual Viewer: Stick to NBC's prime-time coverage. As a resident of the Siberian enclave known to NBC as "that other coast," you will see nothing live. But you don't really care. So tune in to KING TV from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 8 to 11:30 p.m., and midnight to 1:30 a.m. on weekdays. An even better prime-time option for some cable subscribers: the 3-9 p.m. "Olympic Prime" coverage on CBC.

Fair-weather Olympics Fan: You want to see a few events live, but most at a more convenient time. So choose your favorite event and look for it live on MSNBC (2 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily), CNBC (2 to 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.), or USA Network (11 a.m. to 9 p.m.).

Spanish-speaking Fan: Telemundo, baby. Check your local listings.

Stuck-in-the-office Fan: Quietly point your browser to nbcolympics.com or cbcsports.ca for live coverage.

The HD-only Snob: NBC will broadcast in HD, as will CBC, through its digital channel, Bold. Some coverage on USA Network will be in HD — and three hours earlier — on USA-HD. And Universal HD, available to some cable and most satellite subscribers, will be a rerun and simulcast station for events broadcast on MSNBC and CNBC.

The Hard-core Ringhead: All of the above, combined with large doses of NoDoz.
