Five Seattle-area rowers were named to the U.S. Olympic team today.
Lindsay Meyer (quad), Lia Pernell (quad), Mary Whipple (eight), Anna Cummins (pair and eight) and Portia McGee (pair) got the official nod from USRowing as it named the 13 crews to represent the United States in Beijing. Rowing competition begins Aug. 9.
The U.S. will have crews competing in the women's single sculls, men's single sculls, women's double sculls, men's double sculls, lightweight women's double sculls, women's quadruple sculls, men's quadruple sculls, women's pair, men's pair, men's four, lightweight men's four, women's eight and men's eight.
The 45-person roster includes 10 repeat Olympians with six medals. Bryan Volpenhein and Paul Teti will be competing at their third Olympics.
Other returning Olympians include Cummins, Whipple, Wyatt Allen, Caryn Davies, Michelle Guerette, Beau Hoopman, Jamie Schroeder and Patrick Todd.
Cummins and Whipple were members of the women's eight that won silver in Athens. Cummins is the lone member of the team that will be competing in two events, the pair and eight.

Single sculls: Michelle Guerette. Double sculls: Ellen Tomek and Megan Kalmoe. Lightweight double sculls: Jennifer Goldsack, Renee Hykel. Quadruple sculls: Margot Shumway, Jennifer Kaido, Lindsay Meyer, Lia Pernell. Pair: Anna Cummins, Portia McGee. Eight: Mary Whipple, Caryn Davies, Caroline Lind, Susan Francia, Anna Cummins, Elle Logan, Anna Goodale, Lindsay Shoop, Erin Cafaro.
Men
Single sculls: Ken Jurkowski. Double sculls: Elliot Hovey, Wes Piermarini. Quadruple sculls: Scott Gault, Jamie Schroeder, Sam Stitt, Matt Hughes. Pair: Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss. Four: Brett Newlin, Giuseppe Lanzone, Paul Teti, David Banks. Lightweight four: Tom Paradiso, Will Daly, Patrick Todd, Mike Altman. Eight: Marcus McElhenney, Josh Inman, Bryan Volpenhein, Dan Walsh, Steven Coppola, Micah Boyd, Wyatt Allen, Beau Hoopman, Matt Schnobrich.
