SeaBus: Foot ferries offer great Vancouver views

Posted by Jack Broom

Tourist tip: Even if it's not on your itinerary, consider the short hop on the Seabus across Burrard Inlet for spectacular views of Vancouver and surroundings.

The crossing on squat, 395-passenger foot ferries takes all of 12 minutes each way, with boats departing about every 15 minutes.

You have to get off on the North Vancouver side, even if you want to come right back. Even during on Sunday's gorgeous afternoon, we managed to get the very next boat back, making the entire round trip in less than an hour. But you could get a bite or check out the North Vancouver harbor instead of hurrying back.

The fare each way is $3.75 for adults, $2.50 for kids. Olympic Games ticket-holders travel free on public transit the day of their events.

The SeaBus was shut down for a few hours Thursday when officials found an abandoned package near the North Vancouver dock. But that was just an abundance of caution; officials later said the package turned out to contain household items.

And here's a photo tip: The windows on the forward end of the enclosed boat collect spray, making them too messy to shoot through, while windows on the back and sides stay relatively clear. So take your award-winning Vancouver shot on your outbound leg, not as you're returning.
