Mr. Moe also helped at least 150 Jewish musicians escape Germany and Austria just before the height of Hitler's rule by having them impersonate groupies, relatives and stagehands.

Mr. Moe hid some Jewish friends wearing his colorful stage costumes in his car's trunk.

Mr. Moe joined the group Madame Riviere's Hawaiians as a teenager. He and his wife, Rose Kaohu, later branched out on their own, recording eight albums and traveling the world.

The couple and their two children — a son born in Japan and a daughter in India — performed together in venues across North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
