Health-care coverage bill for K-12 employees
This is not a good idea
I must disagree with The Seattle Times editorial endorsing Senate Bill 6442, “Reform K-12 health benefits” [Opinion, Feb. 9].
The bill would eliminate my health-care coverage — not make it less expensive.
I work with special-needs preschoolers six hours a day, 147 days a year; this is less than half the full-time equivalent, so my coverage andthe coverage for all 35 other paraeducators in my school would be eliminated.
I am currently paying for health care for myself, my underemployed construction-worker husbandand our 23-year-old daughter, who doesn’t work enough hours to qualify for benefits through her employer.
We need health-care coverage. I love working with preschoolers, but I could not continue to do so if it meant that I could not longer get health care. Senate Bill 6442 does not deserve your endorsement! I urge The Seattle Times editorial board to reconsider its position.
