Rep. Norm Dicks secures funding to clean up Puget Sound
The Puget Sound is healthier because of him
Let me see if I get this right. Puget Sound is enjoyed by all of the citizens of the state of Washington. Arguably, no politician has done more for the environment and acquired more money (in the tens of millions) for cleaning up Puget Sound than Rep. Norm Dicks [“Dicks directed funds to project his son ran,” News, Feb. 8].
He inspires an environmental ethic in his son, David Dicks, who becomes an environmental lawyer and leaves a lucrative law practice to help lead Puget Sound cleanup.
They create a vision with concrete actions to help restore Puget Sound that benefits all the citizens. But instead of praising Dicks for his positive actions, the author Kimberly Kindy blames him for every dollar that the state has misspent.
She quotes negative accusations and innuendo by people like Rep. Mark Schoesler with his snide comments about “Daddy Dicks” and Steve Ellis. In this day of “do nothing” politicians and people who like to do nothing except criticize others, here is a man who has worked tirelessly for the environment and actually delivered for the people of the state of Washington.
Puget Sound is healthier because of Dicks. Obviously, the author is so fascinated in painting a negative picture of the congressman’s actions that she loses sight of this.
