Driver sought in bike hit-and-run
Posted by Letters editor
Bike lanes bad idea
I read about the bicyclist who was hit; very sad [“Cyclist mourned, driver sought,” NWSaturday, July 30].
I have to say that the bike lane is a bad idea on city streets. Drivers have enough stress, never mind trying to share the road with bicycles.

Cars are winning war
As a daily bike commuter along Dexter Avenue, I have a simple question: How many more people need to die before Seattle really invests in bike infrastructure? This is a question I ponder ever day, wondering if I’m next.
My heart goes out to the family of the latest victim of our city’s wrongheaded love affair with cars. And love affair it is.
What else explains the fact that we do not put our money where our mouths are? Nothing even close.
Whether measured by percent of total commuters or percent of total accidents, we are chronically underfunding the very investments we know will make our streets safer for all people — not to mention the benefits investments in bike infrastructure bring in terms of health and environment.
I’ve heard the shrieking about the “war on cars.” From my vantage point, cars are winning the war.
