Initiative 1033: confidently rejected

Posted by Letters editor

I-1033 lost because of Eyman, not opposition

The people of Washington didn’t vote against Tim Eyman’s latest Initiative 1033 because the opposing campaign spent more [“Eyman’s tax initiative loses,” News, Nov. 4].

In my opinion, they voted it down because they understood it was a bad law, and they are sick of Eyman. Personally, I am very tired of his incessant initiatives, and the bombastic and narcissistic approach he takes to getting them passed.

If you want to help govern this state, run for a seat in the bloody Legislature.

Eyman’s main whine with I-1033 was about the Legislature raising taxes. So? It is a fact that the Legislature may need to increase taxes. If demands for services the state of Washington provides don’t decrease, and current tax revenues do not rebound, raising taxes will be a necessity.

We don’t need Eyman to save us from this; we need him to quit wasting election dollars on self-serving, narrow-minded, unnecessary attempts at lawmaking.

— Matt Andrews, Seattle
