Crack-back block: When an offensive player going downfield turns back to the middle to block a player from the side.
Drive block: The offensive lineman fires out low and hard on the defender, hitting him squarely between the numbers and moving him out of a specified area.
Clipping: Blocking an opponent below the waist from behind. The penalty is 15 yards.
Reach block: The offensive lineman reaches to hit a player in front of another lineman, rather than the one directly in front of him. This tactic is usually used on running plays.
Seal block: When a blocker tries to seal off the defensive pursuit from one side of the field.
Opening up holes: To create running lanes for the ballcarrier by blocking defenders to either side of the desired "hole."
Off-tackle play: A running play designed to go to the tight end's side, taking advantage of the hole created by the tackle, tight end and, in some cases, the fullback.
