LAS VEGAS — Nate Robinson, the former Rainier Beach and UW star, may be getting a big fat Greek payday. Newsday has learned that Olympiakos, the Athens-based team that last summer lured Josh Childress away from the NBA, offered the Knicks' 5-foot-9 guard a two-year contract.
Robinson, 25, a restricted free agent, could earn $10 million in the deal, according to a source. New York Knicks president Donnie Walsh said Tuesday that he had no information about the offer from Olympiakos other than the initial report by a Greek media outlet Monday night.
Robinson's agent, Aaron Goodwin, said he had no comment about the offer.
Notes
• NBA commissioner David Stern said he hopes the league can come up with a plan to return itself to profitability as it grapples with decreasing revenues.
"The losses that are being shown by the league and the decrease in business, although our decreases are less than many other businesses, are going to be delivered in some detail to the players with an understanding that whatever further details they need they'll have," Stern said after a Board of Governor's meeting in Las Vegas.
The commissioner said less than half the teams in the league made a profit this past season.
• Carlos Boozer doesn't expect to be playing for the Utah Jazz this season.
Just two weeks ago, Boozer opted to remain with the Jazz for the final year of his contract. But the two-time All-Star told a Chicago radio station Tuesday he expects the Jazz to trade him.
"The Jazz told me they want to go in a different direction and I respect their decision," Boozer said during an interview with WMVP. "We mutually agreed to work out a trade that was beneficial for them and beneficial for my family and me. So with that being said I'm gonna be traded relatively soon or in good time."
• The Phoenix Suns want to see how Amare Stoudemire returns from eye surgery before offering him a contract extension.
• A warrant has been issued in Las Vegas for the arrest of former NBA star Antoine Walker on criminal charges stemming from $822,500 in gambling debts.
• Former Gonzaga star Adam Morrison had 17 points and five rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers earned a 74-68 victory over Oklahoma City in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Former Washington State Cougar Kyle Weaver had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Thunder. Former Cougar Taylor Rochestie had five points for the Lakers.
• Indiana signed Dahntay Jones for four years at $11 million, according to his agent, Aaron Mintz.
