Clippers reportedly pursue Iverson

Talks between the Los Angeles Clippers and free-agent guard Allen Iverson have been characterized as "very serious," according a source close to Iverson who was not authorized to speak publicly about the negotiations.

LAS VEGAS — Talks between the Los Angeles Clippers and free-agent guard Allen Iverson have been characterized as "very serious," according a source close to Iverson who was not authorized to speak publicly about the negotiations.

The Clippers have long been intrigued by Iverson, having come close to acquiring him in the past.

The team was also waiting to see what would happen with its trade that sent Zach Randolph to the Memphis Grizzlies, but that deal is scheduled to be completed Friday.

Iverson, 34, is looking at the $5.8 million midlevel exception for next season, and one of his other potential suitors, the Miami Heat, is reportedly unwilling to offer more than $2 million for one season.

The team expressing the most interest in Iverson was Memphis, but team owner Michael Heisley has been quoted as saying he thought the Grizzlies were a last resort for Iverson.

Iverson was traded from Denver to Detroit in November. He averaged a career-low 17.5 points in 57 games last season.

Notes

• The Atlanta Hawks announced they have re-signed unrestricted free agents Mike Bibby, a 31-year-old guard, and Zaza Pachulia, 25, a forward-center. Bibby signed for three years and about $18 million. Pachulia's four-year contract is worth about $19 million.

The Hawks will turn to negotiations with forward Marvin Williams, 23, a restricted free agent from Bremerton who made $7.4 million last season.

"We're juggling a whole lot of balls," said Hawks general manager Rick Sund, a former Sonics GM. "Marvin has got some options as well. Hopefully we can reach something that makes sense for both."

• Orlando retained backup center Marcin Gortat, matching the $34 million, five-year deal offered by the Dallas Mavericks to the restricted free agent from Poland.

Gortat averaged 3.8 points and 4.5 rebounds last season as a backup to Dwight Howard and wanted to go to Dallas. Agent Guy Zucker said Gortat "was definitely very disappointed today."

• Detroit gave the Denver Nuggets guard Arron Afflalo, forward Walter Sharpe and cash for a future second-round draft pick. The trade freed close to $1.8 million in salary-cap space for the Pistons.

• Swingman Anthony Parker, 34, who averaged 10.7 points for Toronto last season, signed a two-year deal worth an estimated $6 million with Cleveland.

• Ex-Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin, the first player taken in last month's draft, had 27 points and 12 rebounds to help the Clippers beat the Los Angeles Lakers 93-82 in an NBA Summer League game in Las Vegas. Former Gonzaga forward Adam Morrison led the Lakers with 20 points.
