Lakers prepare to face Nuggets

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers stepped off one thrill ride and, after little time to catch their breath, have to jump on another.

No big deal, Kobe Bryant said Monday, the only day the top-seeded Lakers had to prepare for the best-of-seven Western Conference finals against Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and the rest of the second-seeded Denver Nuggets.

"You just get after it. We're pretty familiar with this team," Bryant said.

Game 1 is tonight at Staples Center.

"Honestly, when we played them in Denver, the second-to-last time we played them, I told Melo, 'I'll see you in the Western Conference finals,' because I just felt like they had all the pieces there," superstar guard Bryant said.

The Lakers needed seven games to oust the Houston Rockets from the West semifinals. Denver, guided by ex-Sonics coach George Karl, eliminated Dallas in five games in the semis.

Notes

• Game 4 of the Lakers-Nuggets series is to be played Monday at the Pepsi Center in Denver. But World Wrestling Entertainment officials say they have booked the arena for an episode of "Raw."

WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman said the organization secured the Pepsi Center on Aug. 15 and has sold more than 10,000 tickets for the event.

• Retired Lakers guard Jerry West, 70, said he played while suffering from atrial fibrillation, a heart-rhythm disturbance.

"I wonder if they tested me now, would they have said I couldn't have played?" the Hall of Famer said.

• Retired forward Brian Grant, 37, has Parkinson's disease. Grant told ESPN.com he was diagnosed in January.

• Orlando's 101-82 victory over the Celtics on Sunday in Boston was watched on TNT by 8.41 million viewers, a record for a second-round playoff game on cable TV. The previous mark was 7.65 million for Game 6 of Lakers-San Antonio in 2004.
