Former Sonic Vincent Askew arrested on sex charges

Retired NBA player Vincent Askew posted bond Thursday after his arrest on charges that he had sex with a 16-year-old girl.

The Associated Press

MIAMI — Retired NBA player Vincent Askew posted bond Thursday after his arrest on charges that he had sex with a 16-year-old girl.

Askew played for eight NBA teams in nine seasons. Police said he approached the victim three months ago and told her that he was recruiting players for a Miami-Dade County prep school. Authorities said the 43-year-old and the teen later met at a hotel and had sex.

Askew was trying to get a coaching job at the school, police said.

He was taken to the Miami-Dade jail after his arrest Wednesday and a day later on $22,500 bond. It's not known whether he has an attorney.

Askew's NBA career included stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and Seattle SuperSonics. He has since coached minor league basketball teams in Kentucky and Albany, NY.
