Notebook | Garnett makes it a long night for Sonics' Wilcox

Player of the game: Celtics forward Paul Pierce needed just one quarter to score all 14 of his points. He converted 6 of 11 shots and also had a game-high 11 assists and two steals.

Play of the game: Kevin Durant mishandled his dribble at the top of the key and Ray Allen collected a loose ball and passed to Rajon Rondo, who flushed a 360-degree dunk in the third quarter.

Turning point: After Allen sank a three-pointer that gave the Celtics a 20-19 lead with 4:47 left in the first quarter, the Sonics quickly fell behind by eight points and never got closer.

Up next: Minnesota, 7:30 p.m. Friday at KeyArena.

BOSTON — There are nights when Chris Wilcox looks like a promising young forward with All-Star potential, and then there are games like the one he had Wednesday in which he seems to disappear when playing against someone equally athletic and just as quick.

Kevin Garnett gave Wilcox all he could handle and more in the Celtics' 111-82 victory.

The Celtics forward finished with 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting and six rebounds, while Wilcox spent most of the night on the bench because of foul trouble. He played just 21-plus minutes and had seven points, four rebounds and five fouls.

"It was a tough game for Weezy," Sonics coach P.J. Carlesimo said.

Carlesimo acknowledged before the game that Wilcox tends to play better against lesser competition.

"Going up against KG is a big challenge for him," he said.

Marshall OK with lack of PT

So maybe the courtside spat between Carlesimo and Donyell Marshall a week ago was "nothing" as both have said repeatedly, but before Wednesday's game, the newly acquired forward had played a total of five minutes in the four games since the altercation.

"I thought for a minute after the trade that I might get some playing time because it's a younger team, but P.J. told me when I got here that wasn't going to happen and it was something that I said, 'OK, I'm cool with that,' " said Marshall, who played 21 minutes against the Celtics, largely because Nick Collison was out with an injury.

Note

Ray Allen on the Sonics' possible relocation: "Every guy that played in Seattle or visited Seattle loves that city and says that it would be a travesty not to have a team there. People love visiting."
