OAKLAND, Calif. — Donyell Marshall finally showed up Tuesday night in a Sonics uniform after the blockbuster trade six days ago with Cleveland.

Looking a little worse for wear, Marshall coughed and talked his way through a brief pregame interview before the game against Golden State. He passed his physical Saturday in Seattle then got slapped silly by the flu and fever.

Marshall knows what that's like. He has six children who remained back in Cleveland.

"I had a cough the night before," Marshall said. "I took some medicine after the physical, worked out, then felt worse."

Marshall, 34, is with the seventh team of his 14-year NBA career. He said he understood the reasons for the 11-player trade, but said he was "disappointed" with the deal.

"I liked it in Cleveland," Marshall said. "I had a lot of friends there in that organization."

One advantage for Marshall is that he played for P.J. Carlesimo when the Sonics coach held the same job for the Warriors for two years ending in 1999.

"At least I don't have to learn a new system," Marshall said.

Westhead remembers days against Nellie

Sonics assistant coach Paul Westhead, when he ran the run-and-gun offense as the head man at Denver, hooked up in some memorable duels with current Warriors coach Don Nelson.

"We opened the 1990-91 season in Denver against the Warriors," Westhead said. "I think the score was 162-158. I can't remember who won. Well, they did."

Notes

• The Sonics were without guard Earl Watson (respiratory infection), Robert Swift (torn right meniscus) and swingman Damien Wilkins (sprained right wrist).

• On the same date 19 years ago, three Sonics scored 30 or more points. Dale Ellis scored 37, Xavier McDaniel had 31 and Tom Chambers 30 in a 133-130 win over Sacramento.
