Notebook | Ridnour healthy again, but stays on the sideline

Wednesday's game at a glance

Player of the game: New Jersey forward Richard Jefferson did a little of everything, finishing with 28 points on 11-for-17 shooting, six assists, five rebounds and three steals in 30 mintues.

Turning point: Midway through the second quarter, the Sonics trailed 36-33 and appeared as if they'd recovered from a poor first quarter. Six minutes later, New Jersey held a 59-46 halftime lead and Seattle never recovered.

Key statistic: Fastbreak points: New Jersey 17, Seattle 7.

Up next: Against Dallas, 7:30 p.m. Friday at KeyArena.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — With their fifth straight defeat and third blowout a certainty early in the fourth quarter, P.J. Carlesimo emptied his bench and allowed the reserves to play most of the final period.

Luke Ridnour sat nervously, waiting for his coach to give him the nod that never came.

Before the game, Ridnour told trainers his sore left thigh, which didn't allow him to play Tuesday in Cleveland, felt better than it had in nearly a week.

"I've been running and I haven't felt the soreness that I have," he said.

Afterward, Carlesimo said he intended to play Ridnour, but didn't want him to substitute for Earl Watson and Delonte West even though they each shot 1 for 7 from the field and combined for six points and four turnovers.

"The way the game evolved I just said I don't think I want to throw him out there," Carlesimo said. "We had our own dilemma as usual. We had the two of them [Watson and West] and do you want to throw the third one in? I didn't really feel like sliding Delonte to 2 [shooting guard].

"We need to get Luke out on the floor. I'm sure he's very disappointed."

Ridnour has played in just 15 games because of injuries and has missed six of the past seven.

Kidd's streak ends

New Jersey guard Jason Kidd needed five more rebounds to extend his triple-double streak, which ended at three. It was the longest since Grant Hill did it in 1997.

"No matter the streak or no streak, I'd rather take the rest, get the win and get ready for Boston on Friday," said Kidd, who finished with 16 points, 11 assists and five rebounds in 29 minutes. He did not play in the fourth quarter.

Kidd has 97 career triple-doubles.

Gelabale's future

Mickael Gelabale had difficulty getting minutes when the Sonics were short-handed, and with the return of forward Chris Wilcox and Ridnour, the reserve swingman isn't likely to play much anytime soon.

When asked if the Sonics would consider sending Gelabale to the developmental league, Carlesimo was vague.

Gelabale would consider the assignment a demotion and prefers to remain with the Sonics.

"It's been my dream to play in the NBA," he said. "I didn't dream about playing in the D-League."
