NBA Wire Notes | Lakers' Odom earns suspension

LOS ANGELES — Lakers forward Lamar Odom was suspended by the league for one game Tuesday because of a flagrant foul on Celtics guard Ray Allen last Sunday at Staples Center.

Odom will sit out Friday's game against Philadelphia and will also forfeit $120,441 in pay.

After Odom's shot was blocked by Kevin Garnett, Odom appeared to slam his body into Allen, who retrieved the ball with 2:57 to play in the Lakers' 110-91 loss. Allen was called for a technical foul on the play for moving menacingly toward Odom after the collision.

Odom said afterward he was going for the ball. The league and Allen disagreed.

"I don't know what Odom was thinking," the former Sonic told reporters. "I got the rebound, and he tackled me. I know this is Sunday, but this is the wrong field."

It was unclear who would start in Odom's place against the 76ers.

"We're disappointed," Lakers spokesman John Black said. "We don't think he would do anything to ever intentionally harm another player."

Kidd hitting the boards

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Nets' Jason Kidd is three rebounds shy of tying Magic Johnson for fourth place on the all-time NBA career list by a guard. It is a mark he will likely pass tonight when New Jersey visits the Orlando Magic.

Kidd, a 6-foot-4 guard, has 6,556 career rebounds in 14 seasons. He is averaging a career-high 8.6 rebounds this year, tying Chicago center Ben Wallace (6-9) and Sacramento center Brad Miller (7-0) for 28th in the league.

"It comes with age," Kidd, 34, said, grinning. "I just try to help my big guys as much as they help me. I try to start the fast break that way."

Kidd leads his team and all guards in rebounds and is second in assists (10.6), trailing Phoenix's Steve Nash (12.4).
