Report: UN agency spills online job-seeker data
Thousands of applicants for jobs at the U.N. cultural agency have had their private information exposed because of a computer glitch, according to a report by German news weekly Der Spiegel.

Thousands of applicants for jobs at the U.N. cultural agency have had their private information exposed because of a computer glitch, according to a report by German news weekly Der Spiegel.
The U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization said Friday it was aware of the problem and is trying to fix the leak, which inadvertently placed names, home addresses, cell phone numbers and current salaries of countless job seekers on an unsecured part of its website.
"The information systems team began working to close this breach as soon as we became aware of it," said spokeswoman Sue Williams. She said there appeared to be no malice involved and "everything possible is now being done to secure the sites."
Der Spiegel reported that the glitch affected online applications for internships and permanent posts at Paris-based UNESCO.
It said some of the data has been exposed for five years.
