VALHALLA, N.Y. —

The parents of two girls who were stabbed in their home across the street from Martha Stewart's New York estate say they're in good condition.

Seven-year-old Maeve (mayv) Kelly and 9-year-old Annabel Kelly were repeatedly slashed Saturday night while their parents were at a nearby concert in Katonah (kuh-TOH'-nuh), a hamlet about 30 miles north of New York City.

Parents Joseph and Eva Kelly issued a statement Tuesday through Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where the girls are being treated. They thank the community and say the prognosis for the girls is positive.

An aunt was baby-sitting the girls and has been charged with assault. The Syracuse-based organization where she helped with disabled people a few years ago says she was a "good volunteer."
