Delaware may be last state to get a national park

Delaware may finally join the other 49 states in getting a national park of its own.

The Associated Press

DOVER, Del. —

Delaware may finally join the other 49 states in getting a national park of its own.

The state's congressional delegation plans to introduce legislation Tuesday to create a history-themed park with a center in New Castle and multiple satellite locations. Topics would include European settlement and Delaware's role as the first state to ratify the Constitution.

Sen. Tom Carper says the bipartisan plan would require a few million dollars from the federal government so the park could open in 2011.

Delaware is the only state without a unit of the National Park Service.
