Reporters' families overjoyed by N. Korea pardons

The families of journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee say they are overjoyed the North Korean government has pardoned the two women and is sending them home.

SAN FRANCISCO —

The families of journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee say they are overjoyed the North Korean government has pardoned the two women and is sending them home.

The families issued a statement Tuesday thanking former President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore for their roles in winning the release of Lee and Ling.

The two American reporters were on an assignment for Current TV, which is backed by Gore, when they were arrested along the Chinese-North Korean border in March. Clinton met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il Tuesday on a mission to secure their freedom.

The families say they "are counting the seconds" until they can hug Ling and Lee.
