The family of a 21-month-old boy who died after getting tangled in a soccer net has sued a Dallas suburb and its police officers for allegedly wasting critical minutes after relatives made a 911 call.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday claims Murphy police officers mistakenly thought Matthew Cantrell was dead and treated the home like a crime scene by barricading his mother and brother in a bedroom before medical technicians arrived.
The lawsuit says nearly 10 minutes passed from the 911 call to when emergency medical technicians performed CPR on the boy in 2007. They say police initially refused those technicians access to the boy.
The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and unspecified damages.
Murphy city officials say they cannot comment until they review the lawsuit.
