CARTERSVILLE, Ga. —

Two people have been transported to the hospital after the single-engine plane they were flying crashed just after take off from a small north Georgia airport.

Bartow County fire chief Craig Millsap says the RANS S-6S plane was leaving the Cartersville-Bartow County Airport about noon Thursday when it crashed. The two victims were not immediately identified.

Authorities say the two people on the plane were seriously injured but were not in life-threatening condition.

Kathleen Bergen with the Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft was a home-built plane registered to Wayne O. Robinson of Dallas, Ga. She was unsure whether he was on the plane when it crashed.

Authorities say they don't know where the plane was headed.
