Two former Memphis police officers were sentenced in a 2007 federal corruption case in which officers stole drugs from dealers and then resold them.
A news release from the U.S. Department of Justice says Antoine Owens and Alexander Johnson were sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Memphis. Owens and Johnson had each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate civil rights.
Owens was sentenced to more than five years in prison. Johnson received more than two years in prison and two years of supervised release.
The release says Owens and Johnson admitted to conspiring with other former Memphis police officers in the case, in which they would use their authority to stop and detain drug dealers, then steal drugs and money from them.
