Shooting death of southeast Iowa man is ruled accidental by investigators

Authorities have ruled the shooting death of a southeast Iowa man accidental.

MONTROSE, Iowa —

Authorities have ruled the shooting death of a southeast Iowa man accidental.

Lee County sheriff's officials say 29-year-old Levi Martinson, of Donnellson, and a friend were target shooting last Friday at Martinson's home using high-powered rifles when the incident happened.

Sheriff Buck Jones says Martinson was holding the rifle by the barrel at his side when it accidentally discharged. He was struck in the left forearm and left side.

Martinson was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.

An autopsy was conducted over the weekend and the death was ruled accidental.
