Lawyers: Austin fire chief won't be charged after confrontation

Attorneys hired by the city of Austin to investigate allegations against the city fire chief say no criminal charges should be filed.

AUSTIN, Minn. —

Attorneys hired by the city of Austin to investigate allegations against the city fire chief say no criminal charges should be filed.

The Goldman, Sturtz & Halvorsen law firm of Albert Lea was hired after a local businesswoman filed a complaint against Austin Fire Chief Dan Wilson.

The complaint arose from a confrontation between the two on Feb. 12 at a fire committee meeting.

Goldman, Sturtz attorney Robert Sturtz issued a statement Monday saying there wasn't enough evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doublt.

Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp says he considers the case closed.
