The inaugural festivities are under way at the U.S. Capitol, as a huge crowd awaits the swearing-in of Barack Obama as president.
The Marine Band began playing shortly after 10 a.m., EST, as VIPs began filling the seats overlooking the stand where the midday oath-taking by both Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden will take place.
As the program began, the president-elect and his wife, Michelle, were at the White House for coffee, hosted by President George W. Bush and wife Laura. They were joined by Biden and his wife, Jill.
The Obamas and Bidens began the day at a church service near the White House.
