Jailed Hamas official has kidney stone removed
A lawyer for the Palestinian parliament's jailed speaker says the Hamas lawmaker has undergone surgery in Israel to remove a kidney stone.
A lawyer for the Palestinian parliament's jailed speaker says the Hamas lawmaker has undergone surgery in Israel to remove a kidney stone.
Abdel Aziz Duaik has been imprisoned by Israel since August 2006, along with scores of other Hamas legislators.
His lawyer, Fadi Qawasmi, said on Saturday that the 60-year-old is doing well after the surgery. The lawyer says the lawmaker suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems.
The surgery took place Friday in Israel's Ramle Hospital, where prisoners receive health care.
Israel arrested the Hamas legislators after Palestinian militants captured Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit in a cross-border raid in June 2006. Hamas demands Israel release the legislators as a part of any exchange deal for Schalit.
