CALGARY, Alberta —

The boom of a construction crane smashed into a light-rail commuter train Wednesday, injuring the driver and five passengers, including a 10-year-old girl, officials said.

Stuart Brideaux, spokesman for the emergency medical service, said the boom of the mobile crane punched through the train's front window, tearing a gaping hole and derailing the train.

None of those hurt suffered life-threatening injuries, he said.

The crane belonged to Enmax, a Calgary utility company, and was scheduled to begin work on the rail line at 10:30 a.m., about 15 minutes after the accident.
