Leaning power poles prompt closure of Lynnwood street

Leaning power poles have forced the closure of 196th Street Southwest in Lynnwood

Leaning power poles have forced the closure of 196th Street Southwest in Lynnwood. The state Department of Transportation closed the stretch of road in both directions when rotted power poles began to lean over the road near the intersection of 196th Street Southwest and 52nd Avenue West.

Workers were adjusting power lines and the tension in the lines pulled the three rotten poles over the road, said Lynnwood Public Works Department spokesman Les Rubstello. The downed poles caused a power outage to five or six buildings in the immediate vicinity, Rubstello said.

Crews in are working to remove the poles.

"Later this afternoon is the best we can say," Rubstello said of when the street will reopen.
