Police in London arrested a 23-year-old man Thursday over the brutal stabbing murders of two French students, shortly after releasing his picture and warning the public he was dangerous.
Metropolitan Police said they arrested Daniel Sonnex in south London less than an hour after they appealed for information on him. He was the fifth person arrested over the murders of students Gabriel Ferez and Laurent Bonomo, who were both 23.
The savage killings shocked Britain and France. Bonomo was stabbed almost 200 times and Ferez almost 50 times before their bodies were doused in fuel and set on fire at Bonomo's London apartment on June 29. Police have not yet determined what the motive for the killings was.
The latest arrest comes after a 33-year-old unemployed man appeared in a London court charged with the murders. A judge at Greenwich Magistrates' Court ordered Nigel Edward Farmer detained until a pretrial hearing Oct. 16.
Farmer was arrested Monday after he turned himself in at a London police station. He faces other charges, including arson. Police are also questioning a 35-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman about the killings. Another man was arrested but later released without charge.
