OLYMPIA, Wash. — The House passed the first bill of the new legislative session on Wednesday, unanimously approving a measure offering property tax relief to disabled veterans.

The bill, sponsored by Republican Rep. Tom Campbell of Roy, passed on a 96-0 vote and now heads to the Senate, where it got stopped up last year after passing the House.

The measure expands the eligible veterans under an existing tax exemption program to those with incomes of $70,000 or less, if the veteran has a service-related total disability.

It also clarifies in state law that disability income from the federal government is not considered income in Washington state.

The legislative session began Monday and is scheduled to end March 13.
