WASHINGTON — Newly released transcripts shed fresh details on the immunity deal that secured Osvaldo Aldrete Davila's testimony against two Border Patrol agents.

Christopher Sanchez, who headed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) investigation, said Aldrete initially "did not want to talk to me" but agreed to cooperate after being given limited immunity sparing him from prosecution for crimes that occurred on the day of the shooting.

DHS officials also arranged for Aldrete to be treated at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, where the bullet was removed and used as evidence.

Aldrete acknowledged he was hired to haul 743 pounds of marijuana to a U.S. stash house. But Judge Kathleen Cardone limited attorneys from asking more detailed questions, saying, "I don't want to get into this entire crime, OK, because he is not on trial."
