Pennsylvania couple fatally shot, daughter missing

A 14-year-old girl was missing after her parents were shot to death in their home Sunday morning, and authorities were searching for her 18-year-old boyfriend, who reportedly abducted her at gunpoint.

Michael and Cathryn Borden, both 50, were found shot to death shortly after 8 a.m., Lititz Police Chief William Seace said.

The couple's 9-year-old son, David, the youngest of five children, had fled to the home of neighbors, who called 911, Seace said. An older daughter still living at home and two adult sons were also safe, he said.

But Kara Beth Borden, 14, was missing. Police said she was last seen that morning at the family's home in Warwick Township, about 60 miles west of Philadelphia, and was reportedly abducted at gunpoint by David G. Ludwig, 18.

Pickup hits house, killing girl inside

A pickup crashed through a house where six people were sleeping early Sunday, killing a young girl and critically injuring a man, authorities said.

The driver had lost control on a curve in state Route 67 around 3:45 a.m. and crashed into the home, according to the State Highway Patrol.

A young girl in the home, Rochelle Dibble, died Sunday afternoon at a hospital in Toledo, the patrol said. Richard Dibble was hospitalized in critical condition, said a hospital spokeswoman who declined to provide further details. Their ages were not released, though the patrol said the girl was believed to be about 8. No information was available on the others inside the home.

The driver of the pickup was being held in Seneca County Jail late Sunday; charges had not been filed.

A newlywed police officer was killed early Sunday by a suspect he was chasing on foot, authorities said.

Officer Brian Jackson and another officer went to investigate a disturbance complaint and chased a male suspect through alleys and between houses, Police Chief David Kunkle said.

During the chase, the man fired at the officers, fatally wounding Jackson, Kunkle said. The suspect, Juan Lizcano, 28, was charged with one count of capital murder and was in police custody.

Jackson, 28, was a five-year veteran of the Dallas police force and had previously served with the New York Police Department, Kunkle said. He had been married for just two months.

Jackson was the first Dallas officer killed since Oct. 23, 2002, when an off-duty officer died in a traffic accident.

18-year-old surfer bitten by shark

A surfer dangling his feet into the Atlantic Ocean on Florida's east coast was bitten by a shark, authorities said.

The 18-year-old man was surfing in water up to 8 feet deep near the New Smyrna Beach jetty Saturday when the shark swam up and bit him, said Scott Petersohn, spokesman for the Volusia County Beach Patrol.

The man, who was not identified, was in stable condition at a hospital, officials said. The size of the shark was not known.
