An improvised roadside bomb killed a U.S. Army soldier on patrol near Rutbah in western Iraq, the military said in a news release.

The soldier was the second attached to the 1st Corps Support Command killed in two days.

As of yesterday, 1,724 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
