BAGHDAD, Iraq — A U.S. Marine was killed in fighting with insurgents in western Iraq, the military said yesterday.
The Marine, who was assigned to the 5th Regiment, 2nd Division, was killed Monday near Ramadi, 70 miles west of Baghdad.
At least 1,662 U.S. military personnel have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,274 died as a result of hostile action, according to the Defense Department. The figures include four military civilians.
