BAGHDAD, Iraq — A soldier from Yakima, Staff Sgt. Kyle Eggers, has been killed in Iraq, the military announced yesterday.

Eggers, 27, was killed in action over the weekend in the vicinity of Al Habbaniyah, Iraq. He was assigned to the U.S. Army's 506th Infantry.

Eggers, a nine-year Army veteran, is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and three sons.

The military also announced that two members of the Fort Lewis-based Stryker Brigade, Staff Sgt. Salamo J. Tuialuuluu, 23, of Pago Pago, American Samoa, and Sgt. David A. Mitts, 24, of Hammond, Ore., were killed Saturday in Mosul when their vehicle was attacked.

Three U.S. Army soldiers were killed Sunday in fighting in western Anbar province, the military said, and a Marine died there in a vehicle accident today. Anbar includes the battleground cities of Fallujah and Ramadi.

More than 1,270 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,000 died as a result of hostile action, according to the Pentagon.
