BAGHDAD, Iraq — The U.S. military has announced the combat deaths of three American soldiers.

One was killed Saturday night when a bomb exploded beside a vehicle in Baghdad. A second soldier died of wounds suffered during a firefight Saturday south of the capital.

A third soldier was shot dead and two others were wounded in a firefight yesterday in a city south of Baghdad, the U.S. military said today.

The deaths bring to 778 the number of U.S. service members who have died in Iraq since the beginning of military operations 14 months ago.
