Wednesday, March 31, 2004 - Page updated at 12:55 A.M. Multiple attacks in Iraq kill six U.S. troops By Seattle Times news services
The explosive device was on a road in Anbar province and blew up when the vehicle ran over it, U.S. Army Col. Jill Morgenthaler said. Witnesses said the attack occurred in the city of Fallujah, a hotbed of rebel activity. Also today, witnesses said they saw rebels fire small arms at two civilian four-wheel-drive cars in Fallujah. The five people in the cars were killed and their vehicles set on fire, said Safa Mohammedi, a local resident. The identities of the victims were not immediately known. Yesterday, one Marine was killed and five others wounded in three separate explosives attacks in Ramadi. Meanwhile, south of Baghdad near Hillah, a suicide bomber blew up his car outside the house of a police chief, killing himself and wounding seven others, officials said. The three attacks on Marines in various neighborhoods of Ramadi involved the detonation of improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, one of which killed a Marine patrolling on foot and severely injured a second Marine. Material from The Associated Press and Los Angeles Times is included in this report.
