Bill Frisell featured at Portland Jazz Festival
The Portland Jazz Festival announced Thursday that longtime Seattle-based jazz guitarist Bill Frisell will present a two-night themed performance at this year's celebration. The concerts take place Feb. 24 at the Crystal Ballroom and Feb. 25 at the Newmark Theatre.
The Portland Jazz Festival announced Thursday that longtime Seattle-based jazz guitarist Bill Frisell will present a two-night themed performance at this year's celebration. Titled "For Portland Only," the program pays tribute to country legends Jimmy Bryant and "Speedy" West, as well as pop icon John Lennon, the subject of Frisell's recent album, "All We Are Saying ..." The concerts take place Feb. 24 at the Crystal Ballroom and Feb. 25 at the Newmark Theatre.
Frisell will be joined in various combinations by Greg Leisz (steel guitars), Tony Scherr (bass) and Kenny Wollesen (drums), Jenny Scheinman (violin), Eyvind Kang (viola) and Hank Roberts (cello).
The festival begins Feb. 17 and runs through Feb. 27 and also features Branford Marsalis, Charlie Hunter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Enrico Rava, Roy Haynes, The Jazz Passengers and Vijay Iyer. Tickets and information: 503-228-5299 or www.boxofficetickets.com/pdxjazz).
