Soundgarden to play a sold-out concert at Showbox at the Market on April 16

A Seattle show by recently reunited band Soundgarden was announced Thursday and has already sold out.
The band plays tonight, April 16, at Showbox at the Market.
Soundgarden was one of the defining creators of the "Seattle sound" in the late 1980s and early '90s. Its recording career was launched by the local Sub Pop label. Its breakthrough album, however, was released by A&M: 1994's "Superunknown," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
The group disbanded in 1997, and a decade later, frontman Chris Cornell expressed doubt that it would ever get back together.
In January of this year, however, the band announced it would reform for Lollapalooza in August in Chicago. The Showbox show is billed as a "warm-up" for that appearance.
A recent post on The Seattle Times' blog, Matson on Music, includes details on the band's recent history. Go to www.seattletimes.com and search "Matson and Soundgarden."
