Cinco things to know about the Latin Grammys

The world of Latin music celebrates 2009 with Alicia Keys, Rubén Blades, Calle 13, Cirque du Soleil and other artists at the Latin Grammys Thursday, Nov. 5.

The Latin Grammys turn 10 tonight, when the annual awards show airs on Univision.

Here are five things you ought to know about Latin music's big night:

1. Last year, the broadcast drew 11 million viewers. For comparison: The 2009 Grammys drew 19 million.

2. Performing tonight in Las Vegas: Alicia Keys, who has a song, "Looking for Paradise," with Spanish singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz; Rubén Blades; Calle 13; Cirque du Soleil; and many others.

3. Top contenders: The Puerto Rican duo Calle 13, whose album "Los de Atras Vienen Conmigo" borrows forms and rhythms from around the globe; and Luis Fonsi, a Puerto Rican singer and actor whose "Palabras del Silencio" was one of the top-selling Latin albums of the year.

4. The show honors artists from all over the Latin world: Not just the U.S., the Caribbean and Mexico, but Spain, Brazil and beyond.

5. The show will air in Spanish, with English subtitles available on closed captioning.
