Bumbershoot's final lineup includes Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs and Cold War Kids

As sure as summer's end, Bumbershoot is on the way, and One Reel, the presenter of Seattle's annual music, comedy, dance, theater, literature, film and art festival, is announcing the last of the artists on the 2009 lineup.

Among the new acts: musical artists Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Old 97's, Cold War Kids, the Helio Sequence, Portland Cello Project; and comedy acts Nick Swardson, Maria Bamford, Wyatt Cenac, Story Pirates AfterDark and The Improvised Shakespeare Company.

The festival, which takes over Seattle Center for Labor Day weekend, Sept. 5-7, will also feature such already-announced national acts as the Black Eyed Peas, Sheryl Crow, Modest Mouse, Jason Mraz, Katy Perry, De La Soul, Raphael Saadiq, All-American Rejects, U.S.E and Brett Dennen.

Here's how the headlining musicians are scheduled to take the main stage: Sheryl Crow, Old 97's, The All-American Rejects and Katy Perry on Saturday; Jason Mraz, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Cold War Kids and Yeah Yeah Yeahs on Sunday; and Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, the Black Eyed Peas and the Knux on Monday.

Despite big-name concert headliners, comedy has been the most buzzed about part of Bumbershoot of late. This year there will be three comedy stages, with the newly announced acts joining a lineup of Eugene Mirman, Todd Barry, Matt Braunger, Tommy Johnagin, Doug Benson and the People's Republic of Komedy.

The literary lineup will include S.E. Hinton, Melvin Van Peebles and Carlton Cuse and other writers of TV's "Lost," in a panel hosted by Entertainment Weekly's Jeff Jensen.

In the visual-arts arena, all kinds of exhibits will be on display, from The Seattle-Moscow Poster Show — which explores graphic art as a bridge between the two cultures — to the popular Gage Academy Jam, an opportunity to attend art school during the festival. There will also be dance performances by such groups as the Pacific Northwest Ballet, a rock opera by Wing-It Productions and skateboard and BMX bike demonstrations. A film festival, curated by the Seattle International Film Festival, will feature music videos, animated shorts, short films and the Seattle premiere of "Rock Prophecies," a documentary on rock photographer Robert M. Knight.

Festival grounds will also be teeming with activities. Fans can take in a microscopic view with Professor Humbug's Flea Circus, buy art at the Indie Market with more than 100 artists represented, or scan posters at Flatstock 22, a rock-poster showcase.

Kids will have their own version of Bumbershoot — Youngershoot — with art, dance, film and music by The Not-Its!, Central Services' Board of Education and Recess Monkey. That schedule is at http://bumbershoot.org/youngershoot.

New this year is a post-Sunday-night after-party, which gets started once the festival wraps up on the Seattle Center grounds at 11 p.m. Sept. 6, at the Spiegeltent of Bumbershoot's One Reel sibling, Teatro ZinZanni.
