Etta James comes to the Paramount Theatre

The great Etta James plays Seattle's Paramount Theatre on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Etta James

Beyoncé may have sung "At Last" for President Obama at one of his inaugural balls. But it was the great blues goddess Etta James who made the ballad a scorching hit way back in 1961, putting her soulful imprint on the tune forever.

If you want to hear the way Etta does it, you're in luck. The slimmed-down singer, who on Sunday turned 71, comes to the Paramount Theatre tonight for a concert that's sure to be a master class in the blues.

7:30 tonight at the Paramount, 911 Pine St., Seattle; $35-$65 (206-292-ARTS or www.theparamount.com).

Seattle Times arts critic
