Artists with Seattle-area ties getting Grammy nominations include Death Cab for Cutie, Origin Records, Bill Frisell, Eddie Vedder and "Young Frankenstein: The Musical"
Local names on the Grammy list: The Grammy nominations were announced Wednesday, and there were some familiar acts among the 110 categories. Some with ties to the Puget Sound area:
Bill Frisell: Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group, "History, Mystery"
Death Cab for Cutie: Best Alternative Music Album (Vocal or Instrumental), "Narrow Stairs," and Best Rock Song, "I Will Possess Your Heart" (songwriters Benjamin Gibbard, Nicholas Harmer, Jason McGerr and Christopher Walla)
Eddie Vedder: Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance, "Rise"
Flight of the Conchords (on Seattle-based label Sub Pop): Best Comedy Album, "Flight of the Conchords"
Soundtrack for "Juno" (featuring Olympia singer-songwriter Kimya Dawson): Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media
Origin Records (Seattle-based jazz and classical label): Best Orchestral Performance and Best Classical Contemporary Composition, "Symphony No. 1: The Four Elements — Chris Walden," Chris Walden
Gerard Schwarz conducting the Seattle Symphony — Best Musical Album for Children, "The Shoe Bird"
Stephen Stubbs (Seattle lutenist and conductor) — Best Opera Recording, "Lully: Psyché," with fellow conductor Paul O'Dette and others from the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra and the Boston Early Music Festival Chorus
"Young Frankenstein: The Musical" (Broadway show which tried out in Seattle): Best Musical Show Album, Doug Besterman, producer; Mel Brooks, composer/lyricist
