Seattle Symphony self-produces its first-ever holiday album, "Holiday Classics," with Gerard Schwarz conducting.

Seattle Symphony has a gift for you: its first-ever holiday album, conducted by Gerard Schwarz. "Holiday Classics," which the orchestra self-produced, includes excerpts from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite" and Handel's "Water Music," plus favorite carols.Many of the pieces on the recording were specially scored by Schwarz to take advantage of the symphony's strengths: Violinist Maria Larionoff carries the melody beautifully on "What Child Is This?" and the orchestra's celebrated horn section is spotlighted on "Silent Night."
The CD is for sale for $9.99 at Symphonica, the shop at Benaroya Hall, and online at www.seattlesymphony.org. Or make it a twofer: When you buy a ticket to a symphony holiday performance, the CD is only $7.99.
One good choice: The Seattle Symphony Chorale's Holiday Sing-Along is Tuesday, Dec. 9. Joseph Crnko conducts the chorale as Joseph Adam accompanies on the huge Watjen Concert Organ. For information, call 206-215-4747 or go to the Web site.
