Fall Arts Guide | Celine Dion, Neil Young coming to Seattle this fall
Alicia Keys, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, Celine Dion and Neil Young (with Death Cab for Cutie opening) play in Seattle this fall.
Seattle Times music critic
Alicia Keys. The classy, sexy young singer-songwriter-pianist returns for the first time since her 2002 debut tour, when she already showed the poise, sass and confidence of an established star. And she's grown quite a lot since then. Incredibly talented, she's equally at home singing R&B, jazz and hip-hop with energy and passion. As she sings in her uplifting new single, she's a "Superwoman." Sept. 20, KeyArena, Seattle Center.
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. The unlikely pairing of rock titan Plant, the searing voice of Led Zeppelin, with folk/country great Krauss, whose voice is light and sweet, turned out to be brilliant. That's because both are deeply talented, pure and natural vocalists who appreciate moody, atmospheric songs that seem to cast spells. Since both have their own projects — his solo career and her band Union Station — this may be their only tour. Oct. 1, WaMu Theater.
Celine Dion. Batten down the hatches! The soaring, glass-shattering, highly dramatic singer of "My Heart Will Go On" fame (the theme from "Titanic") and many other hits is back on tour, after an almost five-year, spectacularly successful run at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. She always pulls out all the stops, so that every song in her set seems like a grand finale. She is adored more than any other artist in pop. Oct. 18, Tacoma Dome.
Neil Young. The grandmaster of rock, godfather of grunge and dean of California singer-songwriters (even though he was born in Canada) is still singing his heart out and raging on guitar, his powers undiminished at age 62. His distinctively high singing voice has just gotten sweeter with age, and he seems to still love performing, especially when it comes to jamming with his band. Seattle's own Death Cab for Cutie is one of the opening acts, along with Everest. Oct. 21, Comcast Arena at Everett.
